Head outside after that flight! Getting outside, breathing fresh air, and soaking in the sun for at least 20 – 30 minutes aids in resetting your diurnal clock. This helps to acclimate your body while lessening jet lag.
Before retiring for the first night in your new location, continue your self-oil massage ritual for 10 – 15 minutes followed by a 10 minute shower. Careful not to wash off all the oil with too much soap.
While away from home it is common to stray from dietary habits and lose focus on
health. Try to be mindful when eating especially the first few days after arrival to give your digestion a chance to adjust to the new environment. Eat easily digestible, grounding, and local fare that is rich in Prāna such as fresh, cooked fruits and vegetables, rice, fish, poultry, dairy, and soft cheeses.
Drink a ginger juice shot to boost immunity and for a quick pick-me-up.
Because your mind and body have been through significant stimulation while away including but not limited to environment, temperature, food, culture, and human interaction it is best to rest and recharge at home for a few days until your mind and body are back in a homeostatic state.
Practice a sattvic (calm, clearing) self-care routine with Hatha yoga and meditation for at least 20 minutes a day, take a bath with essential oils to soothe your joints and muscles, and minimize the mental “junk food” of watching TV and scrolling mindlessly on social media.
Continuing self-oil massage several times a week, eat nourishing and grounding foods, and getting back into a regular sleep schedule are imperative.
